Moving to Zaragoza as a family

A family move multiplies everything: a NIE for each person, a padrón entry for the household, the right card for every member, and school places tied to your address. Sequenced well, it remains manageable.

Case stages

  1. 1 Home Start here
  2. 2 Padrón
  3. 3 NIE and cards
  4. 4 School and health

01A line per person

Every foreign family member, children included, needs an individual NIE. EU citizens each register for the green certificate; non-EU members each get a card, be it the EU family member card, a reunification permit or a visa route of their own. One household case, one line per person, and nobody slips through.

02Household sequence

  • Secure a home: sign the lease, or obtain the owner's authorisation
  • Register the whole household on the padrón
  • File the main applicant's NIE or registration certificate
  • File the other members' applications
  • Sign up at the health centre and request school places

03Schools and health

Public school places in Zaragoza depend on your address, and health centres take you on according to where you live, which is why the padrón sits so early in the plan. Arriving mid-year? Ask about school places the moment the address is settled.

04Beyond paperwork

Papers are only part of a move. For housing, schooling and the wider move, AnchorLess relocation help for families covers the practical side of settling in Spain.

In Zaragoza

A family settling in Zaragoza meets two offices: the police on Avda. de Valencia n.º 50 for NIE and card appointments, and the Delegación del Gobierno's Oficina de Extranjería, Calle Obispo Covarrubias s/n, which lists reunification and the card for relatives of EU citizens among its procedures. The padrón belongs to the ayuntamiento of whichever town you live in.

Its page says the NIE, the TIE, the EU registration certificate, residence certificates and invitation letters are done at the police Brigada Provincial de Extranjería y Fronteras and the Unidad de Documentación de Extranjeros, whose address it does not give. It also lists the EU registration certificate among its own procedures: your appointment confirmation names the office.

Questions

Each person needs a separate slot. We try to book them close together so the trips stay few.

Then your spouse requests the EU family member card with form EX-19 after your own registration.

The household normally follows the main applicant's route, through reunification or visas granted together. We study your case and fix the order.
