01Resident before Brexit
Living in Spain before the transition period ended means the Withdrawal Agreement protects your rights, and your residence card is a TIE issued under it. Still carrying the old green EU certificate? Swapping it for the TIE is worthwhile: the card is what airlines and border officers look for.
02Newcomers from Britain
Newcomers from the UK follow the ordinary non-EU rules. Beyond 90 days in any 180, a visa is needed: a work, study, family or non-lucrative one, depending on why you come. In Zaragoza, you then reserve the toma de huellas and request the TIE. And no: since Spain scrapped the golden visa in 2025, a property purchase on its own leads to no residence permit.
03Owning property from the UK
Selling or buying a flat in Zaragoza, or holding a Spanish account, still requires a NIE. Non-residents can request it at a Spanish consulate in the UK, or here in Zaragoza with a cita previa.
04What we handle
- NIE requests for buyers, sellers and heirs
- Fingerprint appointments for new residents' TIEs
- Exchanging an old green certificate for the Withdrawal Agreement TIE
- Padrón and social security after you move
In Zaragoza
UK residents of Zaragoza reserve their TIE fingerprint session under the province of Zaragoza; the police office on Avda. de Valencia n.º 50 lists TIE issue and régimen comunitario among its procedures. Check the office printed on your booking before you go.

Questions
It still evidences your rights under the Withdrawal Agreement, but the TIE was designed for UK residents and goes through borders more smoothly.
Not for short trips within 90 days in any 180. Check entry requirements before each trip, since EU border systems are being updated.
Gone. Spain closed that route in 2025.
