Travelling while your card is in renewal: the autorización de regreso

An autorización de regreso is the police document that gets a non-EU resident back into Spain after a trip taken while their TIE has expired with a renewal pending, or has been lost or stolen and not yet replaced. In Zaragoza it is requested at the Brigada on Avenida de Valencia, with a cita previa. It covers a departure and your return while it remains valid.

  • Autorización de regreso
  • Modelo 790-012

  4. 4 Authorisation

01Situations it covers

  • Expired TIE, renewal filed and still unresolved
  • Card lost, stolen or damaged, duplicate not ready
  • Occasionally, an application pending while a serious reason forces a trip

02Folder contents

  • Passport, with a copy
  • Proof of the renewal, or the police report of the loss or theft
  • The application, completed, and the Modelo 790-012, paid
  • Travel dates, should the office want them

03Permission first, flights second

Its validity is limited. Ask for it as soon as dates are known, and buy tickets once it is in your hands rather than before.

04How a case helps

We confirm that your situation qualifies, draft the application and search for a slot at the Zaragoza office, which lists autorizaciones de regreso among its procedures.
